A 70-year-old retired bank official, Harun Or Rashid Khan, was killed in a road accident after being struck by a truck in Dumki upazila of Patuakhali on Wednesday morning. The incident occurred at approximately 7:30 a.m. on the western side of the main gate of the upazila, according to local sources.
Harun Or Rashid Khan, a resident of Char Boyera village under Sreerampur ইউনিয়ন, was the son of the late Gias Uddin Khan, a former ইউনিয়ন chairman. Family members reported that, as part of his daily routine, he had gone out for a morning walk when the حادث took place. While crossing the road near the উপজেলা’s main entrance, he was run over by a truck travelling towards Bauphal.
The impact left him critically injured. At the same time, the truck lost control and crashed into a roadside tree, sustaining severe damage. The driver of the vehicle, Riaz Howlader, aged 24, was also seriously injured in the crash. He is the son of Shamim Howlader from Tabirkathi area of neighbouring Bakerganj upazila.
Local residents quickly responded to the scene and rescued both the আহত pedestrian and the driver. They were initially taken to Dumki উপজেলা Health Complex. However, attending চিকিৎসক declared Harun Or Rashid Khan dead upon arrival. The আহত driver was later transferred to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barishal for advanced treatment.
Dr G M Enamul Haque, Residential Medical Officer at the উপজেলা Health Complex, confirmed that both victims were brought to the facility around 8:00 a.m., but the elderly man had already succumbed to his injuries before reaching the hospital.

According to Mohammad Selim Uddin, Officer-in-Charge of Dumki Police Station, the body has been taken into police custody. The family of the deceased has reportedly requested permission to proceed with burial without a post-mortem examination. Police officials stated that a decision would be made after consultation with higher authorities, in accordance with legal procedures.
