Student Leader Removed Over School Feeding Milk Allegations

A Chhatra Dal leader in Pirojpur has been removed from all organisational positions following allegations that he took milk allocated for pupils under a school feeding programme at a government primary school in Nesarabad.

Nadim Mahmud, joint general secretary of Swarupkathi Government College Chhatra Dal and office secretary of Baldia Union Chhatra Dal, has been relieved of his primary membership as well as all organisational posts on disciplinary grounds.

Khalid Hasan, office secretary of Pirojpur district Chhatra Dal, confirmed the decision on Friday, 2 October. He said the action was taken in a decision signed the previous night by district Chhatra Dal president Salahuddin Talukder Kumar and general secretary Mahmud Hasan Shaheen.

According to the allegations, the incident occurred on 25 September at South Binna Kailantari Government Primary School, school number 148, in Nesarabad. The school was hosting arrangements to entertain guests in connection with a boat race on the Binna Canal. While teachers were occupied with the event, 30 packets of milk stored in the school library for the school feeding programme were allegedly taken by Mahmud and several others.

The matter subsequently came to the attention of the school authorities. After the incident became known, Mahmud purchased 27 packets of milk and returned them to the school on 30 September. People familiar with the incident said the remaining three packets had already been consumed.

Mahmud has acknowledged taking the milk but offered a different account of what happened. He said he had taken the 30 packets along with two friends and claimed that they were unaware that the milk had been specifically allocated for schoolchildren. After learning about its intended purpose, he said, they returned 27 packets after purchasing replacement milk.

The incident has also raised questions about the school’s handling of supplies intended for pupils. Headteacher Nurul Islam has been issued a show-cause notice for allegedly failing to inform the upazila education office promptly after learning about the incident.

The headteacher has been given three working days to provide a written explanation.

Md Moinul Islam, Nesarabad Upazila Primary Education Officer, said the school authorities did not notify the education office even though several days had passed since the incident. The delay prompted the show-cause notice against the headteacher, he said.

School feeding supplies are intended to reach the pupils for whom they have been allocated. Their safe storage and proper distribution therefore remain an important responsibility for school authorities. Any failure in those processes can affect the intended beneficiaries and raise questions about institutional oversight.

The case has brought attention to both the alleged removal of the milk and the subsequent delay in reporting the incident to education officials. While the student leader has faced organisational disciplinary action, the show-cause notice means the school administration’s handling of the matter is also being examined separately.

The available accounts differ on whether those who took the milk knew that it had been reserved for pupils. That claim remains attributed to Mahmud, while the organisational action against him was described by the district Chhatra Dal as a disciplinary measure arising from the incident.
