A tragic incident occurred in the Mirpur-2 area of the capital on Friday morning when a 19-year-old bus helper died after falling from a moving vehicle while attempting to board it. The accident took place on the road in front of the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, a busy corridor in Dhaka’s Mirpur zone.
According to police, the deceased has been identified as Md Hafiz, aged 19, who worked as a helper on the bus. The incident happened shortly before 8:00 a.m., during the morning rush when public transport activity is typically at its peak in the area.
Sub-Inspector Mohammad Hossain of Mirpur Model Police Station stated that the bus had just picked up passengers from Mirpur and was en route to Pirojpur. After stopping briefly to allow passengers to board, the vehicle began to move again. At that moment, Hafiz reportedly ran alongside the bus in an attempt to re-board it while it was already in motion. He subsequently lost his footing, slipped, and fell onto the road. He sustained severe injuries and died at the scene.
Local witnesses informed authorities that the helper’s attempt to board the moving bus appeared rushed, likely due to operational pressure to continue the journey quickly. The sudden nature of the fall left little opportunity for immediate assistance.
Police later recovered the body and sent it to the morgue of Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination. Officials confirmed that legal procedures are underway and efforts are being made to seize the bus and identify those responsible for operational negligence, if any.
Authorities have also indicated that the driver and the bus itself are currently being traced as part of the ongoing investigation. Further action will depend on the findings of the inquiry.
