A fire has damaged six rooms at a secondary school in the Patashura Union of Ramgarh Upazila in Khagrachhari district.
The incident occurred on Saturday evening at Kolabari High School. According to local residents, the fire originated in one of the school’s rooms at approximately 7:30 p.m. It then spread rapidly to adjacent rooms within a short period of time.
On receiving information, two units of the Ramgarh Fire Service and Civil Defence rushed to the scene. Firefighters brought the blaze under control after around one hour of continuous effort.
The headmaster of the school, Abdul Kader, told the media that the fire caused significant damage to the head teacher’s room as well as several classrooms. Furniture, computers, and a number of important documents were destroyed in the incident.
Fire Service officials stated that the exact cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed. The officer in charge of the Ramgarh Fire Service station, Bisswanto Barua, told the media that an investigation is required to determine both the cause of the fire and the extent of the losses.
The Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and president of the school management committee, Kazi Shamim, also confirmed that although the fire had been brought under control, considerable damage had already been done to the school infrastructure. He added that an investigation would be carried out to establish the cause of the incident.
Kolabari High School was established in 2022 in the remote Kolabari area under local administrative initiative. The damage to multiple classrooms is expected to disrupt normal academic activities, raising concerns about the continuity of teaching and learning for students.
