Police in Sylhet have arrested an alleged drug trafficker with a substantial consignment of yaba tablets in an overnight operation in Biswanath Upazila. The detainee, identified as Faruk Ahmed (40), was taken into custody with 2,600 yaba pills, according to local law enforcement officials.

The arrest was carried out in the early hours of Saturday in the Golchand Bazar area under the Lamakaji ইউনিয়ন of Biswanath. Confirming the development on Sunday, Gazi Mahbubur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge of Biswanath Police Station, stated that a case had been filed against the accused under the Narcotics Control Act. He was later produced before a court on Sunday দুপুর.

Police sources said the অভিযানে was conducted based on specific intelligence regarding the movement of illegal ইয়াবা tablets in the এলাকায়. ইয়াবা, a synthetic drug combining methamphetamine and caffeine, has been a persistent concern for Bangladeshi authorities due to its widespread পাচার and abuse, particularly in border-adjacent regions.

The accused, a resident of the পশ্চিম লোহারমহল গ্রাম under জকিগঞ্জ উপজেলা, is the son of the late নূর উদ্দিন. Law enforcement records indicate that he is a repeat offender, with at least 12 previous cases filed against him in বিভিন্ন থানায় across the district, all linked to narcotics-related offences.
