Two Suspects Arrested in Manikganj Narcotics Raid

The District Detective Branch (DB) of police has apprehended two individuals suspected of drug trafficking following a targeted raid in the Manikganj Sadar Upazila. During the operation, law enforcement officers seized a substantial quantity of illicit substances, including heroin and Yaba tablets, with an estimated market valuation of approximately 168,000 BDT.

Details of the Police Operation

The operation took place on Saturday, 18 April, at approximately 21:50. Acting on precise intelligence regarding narcotics distribution in the region, a specialised team led by Sub-Inspector (SI) Asad Mia conducted the raid in the Baghia area of Manikganj Sadar.

According to official police sources, the team managed to catch the suspects red-handed during the transaction of the contraband. The successful apprehension was formally confirmed by Inspector Mohammad Rafiqul Islam of the District Detective Branch via a press release issued at 09:00 on Sunday, 19 April.

Suspect Profiles and Seized Contraband

The individuals taken into custody have been identified as residents of the Baghia locality. The first suspect is Didarul Islam, also known as Dipon or Dipu, aged 43, the son of Jungu Mia. The second suspect is 28-year-old Mohammad Emon, the son of Mamun Mia.

Upon conducting a thorough search of the suspects, the police recovered various quantities of narcotics. The breakdown of the seizure is as follows:

  • From Mohammad Emon: 15 grams of heroin and 20 Yaba tablets.

  • From Didarul Islam: 40 Yaba tablets.

In total, the seizure accounted for 15 grams of heroin and 60 Yaba tablets. Inspector Mohammad Rafiqul Islam noted that the estimated street value of these substances reflects the scale of local distribution networks the authorities are working to dismantle.

Legal Proceedings and Regional Context

Following the arrest, the suspects were transported to the Manikganj Sadar Police Station. A formal case has been registered against them under the Narcotics Control Act, which governs the possession, sale, and distribution of prohibited substances in Bangladesh.

Manikganj, situated in central Bangladesh, serves as a significant transit point due to its proximity to the capital and its transport links. Consequently, law enforcement agencies, particularly the Detective Branch, have intensified their surveillance and operations to curb the flow of illegal drugs such as heroin and Yaba (a combination of methamphetamine and caffeine) into the district.

The police have reiterated their commitment to maintaining a “zero-tolerance” policy regarding narcotics. Investigative procedures are currently ongoing to determine if these suspects are linked to a wider smuggling syndicate operating within the Dhaka Division. The seized evidence has been documented, and the suspects are expected to be produced before the court to face judicial proceedings in accordance with national law.
