A 55-year-old woman has died in Narail after reportedly collapsing on her way home from a fuel station, with extreme heat believed to be a contributing factor.
The deceased, identified as Lovely Begum, was the wife of Daud Molla from the Auriya village under Narail Sadar Upazila. The incident occurred on Monday morning (20 April) at around 10:30 a.m. in the Mashimdia area of Narail town.
According to family members and local sources, Lovely Begum had left her home early in the morning to collect diesel fuel for use in cultivating boro paddy on leased farmland. Her husband is reportedly unwell, and she had been managing the agricultural activities of the family herself.
She visited Messrs Sardar Filling Station in the Mashimdia area to purchase fuel. Eyewitness accounts suggest she waited for a prolonged period in a queue before finally collecting around three litres of diesel. After completing her purchase, she began walking back home.
However, while passing in front of a mosque in the Mashimdia area, she suddenly collapsed. Locals quickly rushed to her aid and transported her to Narail District Hospital. On arrival, attending doctors examined her and declared her dead.
Medical officials have indicated that she may have suffered a heat-related medical episode, given the prevailing intense temperatures at the time of the incident. However, no formal post-mortem details have been publicly confirmed at this stage.
Her brother, Nazmul, stated that Lovely Begum had been solely responsible for managing agricultural tasks due to her husband’s illness. He added that she was deeply involved in ensuring the cultivation of their leased land continued without interruption.
A representative of the filling station, Mohammad Rashed, said he was unaware of any incident occurring at the premises itself. He stated that the station was busy serving customers at the time and that staff were focused on fuel distribution.
A doctor on duty at Narail District Hospital, Lipika Rani Biswas, confirmed that the woman was brought in already deceased. She added that, based on initial observations, heatstroke or complications arising from extreme heat exposure could not be ruled out as a possible cause of death.
