Seven Killed Overnight in Naogaon and Cox’s Bazar

In a series of violent incidents on the night of Monday, 20 April, seven individuals were killed in the Naogaon and Cox’s Bazar districts of Bangladesh. The casualties include four members of a single family in the Niamatpur Upazila and three young men in the Teknaf region. Law enforcement agencies are currently investigating both incidents, with initial findings suggesting robbery and criminal disputes as primary motives.

Quadruple Homicide in Niamatpur, Naogaon

In the village of Bahadurpur, located within the Bahadurpur Union of Niamatpur Upazila, a family of four was systematically murdered. The victims have been identified as Habibur Rahman (35), a cattle trader; his wife, Popi Khatun (30); their son, Parvez Hossain (10), a fifth-grade student at Bahadur Government Primary School; and their daughter, Sadia Khatun (3).

The tragedy was discovered on Tuesday morning when Habibur’s father, Nomir Hossain, noticed blood near the entrance of his son’s room. Upon entering, he found the four bodies on the bed, covered with a sheet.

Police reports indicate that Habibur Rahman had returned home at approximately 8:00 pm on Monday after selling cattle at the Manda Choubaria market. He was reportedly carrying 280,000 BDT in cash. Investigators believe the assailants entered the residence to loot the money and gold jewellery. Evidence suggests that Popi Khatun’s earrings were forcibly removed.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mahbubur Rahman of Niamatpur Police Station confirmed that while the parents were decapitated, the two children were killed by blunt force trauma to the head. It is suspected that the perpetrators killed the entire family to eliminate witnesses after the robbery.

Triple Murder in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar

Simultaneously, in the coastal district of Cox’s Bazar, police recovered the decapitated bodies of three men from a remote hill in Teknaf. The remains were found around 9:00 am on Tuesday, 21 April, in the North Shilkhali area of Baharchhara Union.

The victims were identified as Majid, son of Nurul Kabir; Nurul Bashar, son of Nurul Islam; and Robi, son of Ruhul Amin. According to Humayun Kader, a member of the Baharchhara Union Parishad, the victims were likely abducted late Monday night or early Tuesday morning before being murdered.

OC Saiful Islam of Teknaf Model Thana stated that the crime scene was heavily bloodstained. He noted that Majid had six existing criminal cases against him, and there are allegations connecting the deceased to human trafficking and kidnapping activities. Authorities suspect that internal conflicts regarding human trafficking may have led to these killings. Two additional individuals remain missing.
