The singing competition American Idol has confirmed that its upcoming episode will be dedicated to the music of Taylor Swift, as the programme moves into the top seven stage of the current season.
The announcement was made during the episode broadcast on Monday, 20 April. Host Ryan Seacrest informed viewers that the remaining contestants would perform songs from Swift’s catalogue in the next instalment of the show.
“Next week, the top seven will officially enter their Taylor Swift era,” Seacrest said during the broadcast. He added that the performances would span “iconic songs from Taylor’s acclaimed catalog — from her early country roots to her global pop anthems, and all the Grammy-winning songs in between.”
The themed episode is scheduled to air on Sunday, 27 April. It will feature guest judge Nikki Glaser, who has previously spoken publicly in support of Taylor Swift.
The inclusion of Swift’s music continues a pattern on American Idol, where themed episodes frequently spotlight well-known artists. Her songs have regularly been selected by contestants in recent seasons due to their popularity and wide recognition.
In season 22, winner Abi Carter performed Swift’s “All Too Well” from the album Red. In a more recent season performance, Bryant Thomas sang “Champagne Problems” from Swift’s 2020 album Evermore.
