Police officers from the Tongi East Police Station in Gazipur have arrested two individuals in possession of a foreign-made firearm. The operation, which took place in the early hours of Thursday, 23 April, led to the recovery of a pistol and a magazine from the Pagår Pathanpara area of Tongi.
The arrests were made following a period of heightened tension in the Pagår Jhinu Market area. According to law enforcement officials, the region had recently witnessed violent clashes and exchange of gunfire between rival groups vying for local dominance. These incidents resulted in the filing of a formal case, and the police had been actively seeking the primary suspects named in the First Information Report (FIR).
Acting on specific intelligence regarding the whereabouts of the accused, a team from the Tongi East Police Station conducted a raid in the Pathanpara neighbourhood during the pre-dawn hours. The two suspects, identified as Jasim and Shariful Alam Arif, were successfully apprehended during this targeted intervention.
Following the initial arrests, the suspects were interrogated by the police. Based on the information provided by the detainees during the preliminary questioning, the police conducted a subsequent search of a rented room in the residence of an individual named Mojibor, located in the Pathanpara area. It was during this search that the officers discovered and seized:
One foreign-made pistol.
One ammunition magazine.
The police have confirmed that the weapon is linked to the recent disturbances in the Jhinu Market area, where it was allegedly used to exert influence and intimidate local residents.
The individuals taken into custody have been identified as residents of Tongi and Lalmonirhat. The following table provides the specific details of the suspects:
| Name | Age | Father’s Name | Permanent/Current Residence |
| Jasim | 40 | Late Shahidul Islam | Pagar Pathanpara, Tongi, Gazipur |

Mehedi Hasan, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Tongi East Police Station, verified the details of the raid and the subsequent seizures. He stated that the operation was a direct response to the escalating violence related to territorial control in the locality.
The OC further clarified that the arrested individuals are being processed under the relevant sections of the Arms Act, in addition to the existing charges related to the previous rioting and shooting incidents. Following the completion of the necessary legal formalities and the filing of the case, the suspects are being forwarded to the court to face judicial proceedings.
The police have maintained that operations of this nature will continue as part of their broader strategy to curb the use of illegal firearms and maintain law and order within the Gazipur metropolitan area. The recovery of the pistol is considered a significant step in de-escalating the ongoing tensions in the Pagar area.
