Khaled Mahmud Sujon Withdraws from BCB Elections

The former Bangladesh national all-rounder, Khaled Mahmud Sujon, has officially confirmed his decision not to contest the upcoming Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) elections. Speaking to the media at an event in Bogra on Saturday, 25 April 2026, Sujon explicitly stated that he has no intention or existing plan to run for a directorial position in the forthcoming polls.

Shift Towards Professional Coaching

Despite his withdrawal from the administrative race, Sujon expressed a keen interest in continuing his association with the BCB in a technical capacity. He emphasised that his primary focus remains on professional coaching and the overall development of cricket within the country. Sujon indicated that should the board deem him suitable for roles concerning high-performance training or structural improvements, he would be open to such considerations.

Regarding his future role, Sujon remarked that while he is stepping away from the electoral process, he remains committed to the sport’s technical advancement. He noted that he is prepared to serve in any cricket-related capacity that aligns with his professional expertise as a coach.

Consultations with the Ad-Hoc Committee

This announcement follows a high-level meeting between Khaled Mahmud Sujon and Tamim Iqbal, the current President of the BCB Ad-Hoc Committee. The discussion focused on the current state of Bangladeshi cricket, strategic future planning, and infrastructure development. During this dialogue, Sujon shared his insights on the game’s progression while formally notifying Tamim Iqbal of his decision to abstain from the upcoming elections.

Administrative Transition and Election Timeline

The administrative landscape of the BCB underwent significant changes earlier this month when the National Sports Council (NSC) dissolved the previous board, which had been led by Aminul Islam Bulbul. In its place, an 11-member Ad-Hoc Committee was established, with Tamim Iqbal appointed as the President to oversee the transition.

The primary mandate of this interim committee is to facilitate a transparent electoral process. Tamim Iqbal has recently confirmed that the board aims to hold the general elections by June 2026.

Overview of BCB Administrative Changes (April 2026)

Historical Context of Sujon’s Involvement

Khaled Mahmud Sujon has been a prominent figure in Bangladesh cricket, both as a captain and as a long-standing board director. He previously headed the Game Development Committee, playing a pivotal role in the youth systems. His decision to step away from the boardroom signifies a potential shift in the BCB’s leadership structure as the June elections approach.

With the election roadmap now clear, the focus shifts to the recruitment of new directors who will lead the board following the interim tenure of the Tamim Iqbal-led committee. Sujon’s preference for a technical role suggests a desire to return to the field rather than managing the sport from an executive office.
