A 45-year-old woman has died after being allegedly stabbed by her husband during a domestic dispute in Raipura upazila of Narsingdi, Bangladesh. The incident occurred late on Monday night in the Haidermara village of Haidermara Union, specifically at a residence known locally as Palbari.
According to police and local sources, the victim, identified as Afia Akhter, had been living with her husband and their five children. The couple had reportedly been experiencing ongoing marital discord for an extended period, which neighbours say frequently escalated into verbal arguments.
On Monday at approximately 11:30 pm, a heated exchange broke out between Afia Akhter and her husband, Sujon Mia (50). Witness accounts and initial police findings suggest that the argument intensified, during which Sujon Mia allegedly attacked his wife with a sharp knife, inflicting severe injuries.
Following the assault, family members and neighbours rushed the critically injured woman to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital. However, attending doctors declared her dead upon arrival due to the severity of her wounds.
After the incident, the accused husband fled the scene and remains absconding. Law enforcement authorities have launched an operation to locate and apprehend him.
Police officials have confirmed that the case is being treated as a homicide arising from domestic conflict. A post-mortem examination of the deceased has been completed, and the body was sent to the hospital morgue for legal procedures.
