Bashundhara Kings Secure Victory Against Tenacious Mohammedan SC

Bashundhara Kings further consolidated their lead at the summit of the Bangladesh Premier League standings following a 2-1 comeback victory over Mohammedan Sporting Club. Despite taking an early lead at the Shaheed Dhirendranath Stadium in Comilla, Mohammedan SC were unable to withstand the pressure from the defending champions, bringing an end to their recent two-match winning streak.

Match Analysis: Clinical Finishing Decides the Contest

The match began with high intensity, as both sides sought to establish dominance. In the 10th minute, Bashundhara’s Saad Uddin attempted a dangerous delivery into the penalty area, which was securely intercepted by Mohammedan goalkeeper Sujon Hossain. Mohammedan’s Sourav Dewan, who recently scored a hat-trick against Arambagh in the 13th round, missed a significant opportunity in the 18th minute when he failed to convert a one-on-one chance against goalkeeper Anisur Rahman Zico.

However, the deadlock was broken in the 28th minute. Following a skillful dribble past defenders Rimon Hossain and Bishwanath Ghosh, Mohammedan’s Saiful Hossain provided an assist to Muzaffarov. The Uzbek midfielder executed a precise diagonal strike to put the traditional giants ahead.

The momentum shifted during the closing stages of the first half. In the 44th minute, a foul led to a heated confrontation between players, resulting in a yellow card for Bashundhara’s Bishwanath Ghosh. During stoppage time, Rakib Hossain provided a crucial pass to Foysal Ahmed, who found the back of the net to equalise.

In the second half, Bashundhara took control. Although Shahriar Emon missed a clear chance in the 61st minute, the decisive moment arrived in the 68th minute. Brazilian striker Dorielton Gomes converted a pass from Foysal to secure the lead. This goal marked Dorielton’s 15th of the season in just 13 appearances.

Disciplinary Controversy in Munshiganj

In a concurrent fixture at the Birshreshtha Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium, Arambagh KS and Brothers Union played out a 2-2 draw, a match overshadowed by significant officiating delays.

The controversy began in the 32nd minute when referee Bituraj issued a straight red card to Arambagh’s Kwame Kijito. Following intense protests from the Arambagh players, the referee rescinded the red card in favour of a yellow. This reversal subsequently drew protests from the Brothers Union squad. The disruptions led to the match being suspended for 14 minutes, resulting in a total of 15 minutes of added time at the end of the first half.

Following the draw, Brothers Union and Arambagh remain level on 14 points, with Brothers Union occupying the seventh position due to a superior goal difference. Bashundhara Kings now hold a formidable lead in the title race, while Mohammedan SC remain in sixth place with 17 points from 15 matches.
