Police Constable Found Dead in Patuakhali Flat

The body of a female police constable, Meherunnesa Urmi (28), has been recovered by police in Kalapara upazila of Patuakhali district. Her body was found hanging from a ceiling fan in a three-storey residential flat in the early hours of Saturday.

According to police and local sources, the incident took place at a rented residence in the West Badurtoli area under Tiakhali Union. The body was recovered at dawn after police were informed in the early hours of the day.

Meherunnesa Urmi was serving as a constable at Kalapara Police Station. She had reportedly joined the station around eight months earlier. She was married to Mohibbur Rahman, a dismissed police personnel originally from Indrapur village in Bauphal upazila. Her paternal home is in Amtali municipality of Barguna district, and she is the daughter of Shahjahan Mia.

Police confirmed that she had been living with her husband in a rented apartment on the third floor of a five-storey building in West Badurtoli. Local residents stated that the couple had frequent domestic disputes over family matters. They also mentioned that community elders had previously intervened on several occasions to mediate between them.

The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kalapara Police Station, Md. Nazrul Islam, stated that at approximately 1:30 am on Friday night, the husband of the deceased informed the police that his wife had allegedly died by hanging from a ceiling fan inside their residence. Following this report, police personnel went to the scene and recovered the body in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Authorities further confirmed that the husband of the deceased, along with their two children, were taken to the police station for questioning as part of the initial investigation. Police have stated that the exact cause and circumstances of death are under investigation.

At present, no official conclusion has been reached regarding the nature of the death. Standard procedural steps are being followed, including examination of the scene and collection of relevant information from family members and witnesses.
