Bangladeshi actress Aruna Biswas has made serious allegations against interim government cultural adviser Mustafa Sarwar Faruqi, claiming that the careers and lives of some artists have been adversely affected. She made these remarks during a recent Facebook Live session on her verified account, where she appeared visibly emotional while speaking.
During the live broadcast, Aruna Biswas stated that “some artists’ lives have been brought to an end,” attributing responsibility to Faruqi in her comments. She further claimed that Faruqi believes he has “won,” though she disputed this perception.
The actress also alleged that she had been unable to work normally within her home country. According to her statements, she did not receive opportunities for work and faced obstacles wherever she attempted to pursue professional engagements. She said she encountered barriers at different stages, which prevented her from participating in activities and entering certain venues.
Expressing personal sentiment, Aruna Biswas said she deeply misses her country. However, she maintained that due to prevailing circumstances, she has been unable to continue her work and has been deprived of access to various professional spaces.
In the Facebook Live session, she also recounted her experience at a public event, where she expressed dissatisfaction with the behaviour of those present. She emphasised that, as an artist and citizen, she believed everyone is entitled to equal rights, and said she felt deprived of those rights in her experience.
Aruna Biswas further stated that she had never imagined leaving her country in such a manner. However, she clarified that she was not directly told to leave, and that the decision to depart was made on her own initiative.
She also mentioned an incident involving a man at an airport, alleging that he repeatedly disturbed her. She said she was annoyed by his behaviour and added that she intended to seek clarification from him in the future regarding his actions.
Additionally, Aruna Biswas noted that she has been living in Canada for the past 30 years. She also remarked that she would not have returned to her home country if she did not possess a valid passport.
