A written complaint has been submitted to the Police Headquarters and the Ministry of Home Affairs in Bangladesh alleging physical assault, bribery, and implication in a false case against Md. Jabbarul Islam, former Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shreepur Police Station in Magura District and currently serving with the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) in Dhaka.
According to the complaint, the allegations have been made by Sheikh Abu Sayeed (27), son of Sheikh Amirul Islam Sakim, a resident of Sarangdia area under Shreepur Upazila. He is described as a businessman and a local-level political activist associated with the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).
Allegations Presented in the Complaint
The complainant states that he became the target of what he describes as a politically motivated conspiracy involving a local figure named Shonarali Joardar Riya, who is alleged to have ties with local politics and illicit drug activities. It is claimed that due to political rivalry with her, he was subjected to harassment and intimidation.
The written statement further alleges that in January 2023, then OC Md. Jabbarul Islam called Sheikh Abu Sayeed to Shreepur Police Station, where he was physically assaulted and threatened. It is also alleged that during this period, his father was compelled to pay BDT 35,000 as bribery under threat of being implicated in a false criminal case. Despite this payment, the complainant states that he was subsequently named in a fabricated case and sent to prison custody.
The complaint also alleges repeated intimidation directed at his family members.
Additionally, the complainant claims that Shonarali Joardar Riya, previously involved in local drug-related activities, had ongoing political disputes with him. It is alleged that she developed a personal relationship with the then OC Md. Jabbarul Islam after he assumed responsibility at Shreepur Police Station, which later became an illicit relationship. The complaint further states that following public exposure of this relationship, the OC’s then spouse, Sonia, divorced him.
The complainant alleges that this relationship influenced police actions against him and his family, including threats to life if they opposed or reported alleged illegal drug-related activities.
