Three RAB Intelligence Officers Stabbed in Narayanganj

Three undercover members of a Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) intelligence unit were seriously injured following an armed assault in Narayanganj on Tuesday. The incident occurred at approximately 1:30 pm in the Litchu Bagan area of Deobhog, a district within Narayanganj city.

According to police and battalion sources, a plainclothes reconnaissance team from RAB-11 had entered the Deobhog area to gather intelligence on local narcotics dens. Shortly after their arrival, the officers were ambushed by a group of unidentified miscreants. The attackers, armed with sharp weapons, launched an unprovoked and indiscriminate assault, leaving the three officers with severe bleeding injuries.

The victims were immediately rescued and transported to Narayanganj General Hospital (Victoria). Due to the critical nature of his injuries, one officer was later transferred to a higher-tier facility in the capital.

Medical and Official Statements

Zahirul Islam, the Resident Medical Officer at Narayanganj General Hospital, confirmed the severity of the wounds. He stated that the officers sustained deep cuts to their heads, hands, and various parts of their bodies. He verified that SI Najibul was referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) as his condition required urgent specialist intervention.

Lieutenant Colonel H.M. Sajjad Hossain, the Commanding Officer of RAB-11, visited the injured personnel at the hospital following the attack. He clarified the nature of the mission, stating:

“There was no active anti-drug operation underway at the time. A plainclothes intelligence team had gone there for reconnaissance. They were met with an unexpected and sudden attack by armed terrorists and drug traffickers.”

Law Enforcement Response

Khandaker Mahbub, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Fatullah Model Thana, confirmed that the attackers used sharp weapons to hack the officers. He noted that the police and RAB have launched a coordinated joint operation to identify and apprehend the perpetrators involved in the assault.

The Deobhog area has historically been identified by local law enforcement as a high-risk zone for drug-related crimes. Following this incident, security has been tightened in the Litchu Bagan vicinity. Investigative teams are currently collecting evidence and questioning witnesses to establish the identities of the suspects. Both the police and RAB have reaffirmed their commitment to bringing the attackers to justice, emphasizing that such violence against law enforcement personnel will be met with rigorous legal action.
