BAB Appoints Two Vice Chairmen

The Bangladesh Association of Banks (BAB) has appointed two new Vice Chairmen to its Executive Committee following a unanimous decision taken at its latest meeting.

The newly elected Vice Chairmen are Mr Rashed Ahmed Chowdhury, Chairman of Mutual Trust Bank PLC, and Mr Sharif Zahir, Chairman of United Commercial Bank PLC. Their appointments were confirmed through a press release issued after the meeting.

The decision was made during the 230th Executive Committee meeting of Bangladesh Association of Banks, held on Tuesday, 5 May 2026. The meeting was conducted under the chairmanship of Mr Abdul Hai Sarker, who serves as Chairman of BAB and also holds the position of Chairman of the Board of Directors of Dhaka Bank PLC.

According to the press release, the appointments were made unanimously by the Executive Committee members present at the session. The two Vice Chairmen will serve for the remaining duration of the current Executive Committee tenure, which is scheduled to conclude on 31 December 2026.

BAB, as a representative body of bank leadership in Bangladesh, works as a coordinating platform for its member institutions. Its Executive Committee is responsible for overseeing organisational matters, facilitating coordination among banks, and supporting collective positions on sector-related issues. Within this structure, the Vice Chairmen assist the Chairman in carrying out the responsibilities of the association and in ensuring the smooth functioning of its executive activities.

The press release also noted that the decision reflects continuity in the leadership framework of the organisation. No changes were made to the duration of the current tenure, and the appointments apply only for the remaining term period.

Following the election, the Committee expressed confidence that the inclusion of the two newly appointed Vice Chairmen would contribute to strengthening the overall leadership capacity of BAB. It was stated that the Executive Committee expects continued cooperation among its members in fulfilling the objectives of the association during the remainder of the term.
