A 50-year-old auto-rickshaw driver, identified as Abul Kalam, was recovered dead from a canal in Satkania upazila of Chattogram on Tuesday afternoon. The incident took place in the Gorla canal at Morfala area under Noluya Union.
According to family sources, Abul Kalam, son of the late Hamid Bakshu of Peyadar Para in Rasulabad village under Kaliash Union, was a father of three children. He had been missing since Monday afternoon prior to the recovery of his body.
Police and family accounts indicate that on Monday afternoon, Abul Kalam had left home with his battery-operated auto-rickshaw. He was reportedly heading to an area brick kiln in Morfala to deliver fuel. Following this journey, he did not return home, and his whereabouts remained unknown throughout the day.
After he went missing, his family and local residents began searching for him in surrounding areas. During the search operation, his body was eventually found in the Gorla canal on Tuesday afternoon. His auto-rickshaw was also located nearby, in front of a local shop, not far from the canal site where the body was recovered.
Authorities from Satkania Police Station confirmed the recovery of the body. The officer in charge, Manjurul Haque, stated that according to the initial inquest report, no visible injury marks were found on the deceased’s body. Following the recovery, the body was sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination. Police officials added that the exact cause of death will be determined after the autopsy report is received.
At this stage, law enforcement has not reported any confirmed cause of death, and further investigation is ongoing based on standard procedure.
