The BYD Seal has established a significant global reputation within the luxury electric vehicle (EV) segment. Building upon this international prominence, BYD Bangladesh initially entered the domestic market with its premium Seal models. However, because those initial variations carried price tags nearing 10 million BDT (1 crore BDT), the distributor is now introducing a more affordable alternative: the BYD Seal 6 sedan.
The newly introduced model offers a driving range of up to 410 kilometres on a single charge and is capable of achieving a full charge within 30 minutes under optimal conditions. To evaluate its real-world performance, driving dynamics, and technical configurations prior to its commercial launch, a comprehensive test drive was conducted. The evaluation route spanned from the BYD showroom in Tejgaon, Dhaka, across the elevated expressway, and along the 300-Foot Road to the Purbachal Club.
The white BYD Seal 6 features a distinct bonnet contour that allows the driver to accurately gauge the front dimensions of the vehicle from the cabin. The front fascia integrates dual LED headlights alongside narrow bumper apertures designed for aerodynamic airflow, which visually resemble fog light housings from a distance. A prominent air intake system is positioned beneath the registration plate area, with the central BYD emblem placed directly above it.
As a dedicated battery electric vehicle (BEV), the model utilizes its front space to offer a 65-litre front trunk (frunk) beneath the bonnet. Consequently, the vehicle provides dual luggage compartments, including a primary 460-litre boot at the rear. The rear aesthetic features a continuous LED light bar, accompanied by the BYD logo, the model designation on the right, and an EV badge on the left. The lower rear bumper houses dual reflectors and the central registration plate mounting.
The interior is equipped with leather-wrapped seating, featuring electronic adjustments for both the driver and the front passenger. The rear passenger cabin provides adequate headroom and legroom. Due to the absence of a conventional mechanical drivetrain tunnel, the rear floor remains completely flat, enabling a third middle passenger to sit comfortably.
The dashboard houses an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster for critical driving telemetry and a 12.8-inch central infotainment display compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The driver’s display provides real-time data regarding speed, instantaneous power consumption, battery state of charge (SoC), and the remaining operational range. A high-gloss black plastic panel extends behind the central unit across the dashboard.
For occupant comfort and convenience, the cabin integrates an air conditioning system paired with a PM 2.5 air purification unit. The steering wheel supports four-way manual adjustment (tilt and telescopic) and features integrated controls for the multimedia systems and cruise control. The vehicle’s start/stop button is located to the left of the driver, adjacent to a centre console that contains two smartphone storage slots, auxiliary control buttons, and dual cup holders. For device connectivity, both the front and rear rows are equipped with high-speed USB and Type-C charging ports.
During the track and road evaluation with five occupants on board, the vehicle attained a maximum speed of 134 kilometres per hour (km/h). The vehicle accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 12.7 seconds. The drivetrain features four selectable driving modes: Normal, Eco, Sports, and Snow, with Eco mode calibrated to maximize energy efficiency and range.
As an electric vehicle, the powertrain delivers instantaneous torque without transmission lag, generating a peak torque of 220 Newton-metres (Nm). The electric motor produces a maximum power output of 95 kilowatts (kW), which is equivalent to 128 horsepower (hp) in conventional internal combustion engine vehicles. The Seal 6 is configured as a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) sedan.
Power is supplied by a 46.08 kilowatt-hour (kWh) proprietary BYD Blade Battery. The vehicle features an adjustable regenerative braking system that recaptures kinetic energy during deceleration to replenish the battery pack.
The comprehensive technical, dimensional, and mechanical specifications of the BYD Seal 6 are detailed in the table below:
| Technical Parameters | Specifications & Measurements |
| Length | 4,720 mm |
| Width | 1,860 mm |
| Height | 1,495 mm |
| Ground Clearance | 1,610 mm |
| Wheelbase | 2,820 mm |
| Curb Weight | 1,670 kg |
| Rear Boot Capacity | 460 Litres |
| Front Trunk (Frunk) Capacity | 65 Litres |
| Tyre Dimensions | 225/55 R17 |
| Front Suspension | MacPherson Strut |
| Rear Suspension | Multi-link |
| Braking System | Four-wheel Disc Brakes |
| Safety Features | 6 Airbags & High-Definition Rear-View Camera |
| Audio Configuration | 6 Speakers |
The vehicle supports two distinct charging interfaces. Utilizing a Direct Current (DC) fast-charging system via a CCS 2 protocol at an 80 kW rate, the battery can be replenished to full capacity in 30 minutes. Alternatively, a standard Alternating Current (AC) home charger operating at 7 kW requires approximately 6 to 7 hours for a full charge.
During the initial phase of the test drive at regulated speeds, the battery charge decreased by 1% from its starting point of 67%. However, frequent hard acceleration and heavy braking during performance testing reduced the final battery capacity to 32% upon return.
The evaluation noted certain equipment omissions relative to premium tiers: the vehicle lacks a sunroof, wireless smartphone charging pads, a 360-degree camera system, and a blind-spot monitoring system in the wing mirrors. Furthermore, the gear selector lever is positioned on the steering column where conventional indicator stalks are typically located, which may require driver adaptation. The LED headlight clusters provide clear nighttime illumination, though dedicated front fog lamps are absent for heavy winter or foggy conditions.
According to Nakibul Islam, Executive of the Product Development Department at BYD, a single weekly charge is sufficient for standard urban commuting cycles. He stated that the BYD Seal 6 offers an optimal balance of ride comfort and low operational costs within the mid-size sedan segment.
BYD Bangladesh will provide an official manufacturer warranty of 6 years or 150,000 kilometres (whichever occurs first). Additionally, the retail purchase includes a complimentary home charging station installation at the buyer’s residence, along with a secondary portable charging unit for destination charging. The retail price of the vehicle will not exceed 5 million BDT (50 lakh BDT).
