A 36-year-old man, identified as Rabiul Islam, was allegedly murdered following a dispute regarding a motorcycle in Boalmari, Faridpur. The crime was uncovered on Tuesday night when a private car used to transport the victim’s remains lost control and crashed into a roadside ditch. Local residents, who initially approached the vehicle to assist with the accident, discovered a body inside, leading to the apprehension of two suspects.
The victim, Rabiul Islam, was the son of Golam Sarwar Sheikh, residing in Sindhain village within the Magura district. A power tiller driver by profession, Rabiul became embroiled in a long-standing family dispute involving his neighbour’s relatives.
Police investigations and family statements indicate that the conflict originated from a marriage between Shahidul Sheikh of Boalmari and the daughter of Sahidul Islam from Magura two years ago. Recent tensions escalated when Shahidul Sheikh allegedly pawned a motorcycle belonging to his brother-in-law. On the day of the incident, Rabiul had accompanied Sahidul Islam to Boalmari to assist in retrieving the vehicle, as Rabiul was an experienced driver.
According to Musa Molla, the victim’s uncle, an altercation occurred at Shahidul Sheikh’s residence over the return of the motorcycle. Although Rabiul and his companion initially left the premises, they were reportedly called back via telephone under the pretext of resolving the matter. It is alleged that Rabiul was subsequently attacked and killed.
Following the homicide, the perpetrators placed the body in a sack and loaded it into a hired private car. At approximately 20:30 GMT+6, while travelling along the Satair-Mohammadpur road in the Battala area of Hatkholarchar village, the driver lost control, and the car plunged into a ditch.
When local bystanders attempted to rescue the occupants, the suspects tried to dismiss the incident as a routine traffic accident. However, upon inspecting the vehicle, witnesses discovered the sack containing Rabiul’s remains, which bore a fatal throat wound.
Five individuals were reportedly in the vehicle at the time of the crash. While three managed to flee the scene, local residents pursued and detained two men: 23-year-old Shahzada and 22-year-old Tapu Saha. Both suspects are residents of Boalmari Upazila.
