Teen Killed in Highway Collision

A 15-year-old boy has died following a road traffic collision in Mirsharai upazila of Chattogram, in an incident that occurred on Monday morning along the busy Dhaka–Chattogram Highway.

The deceased, Shahin Alam, was the son of Md Abul Hossain from the Purbopur Raypur area of Durgapur Union in the upazila. According to police and local sources, the accident took place at around 9:30am on the Chattogram-bound lane near the Sonapahar area when the teenager was attempting to cross the highway.

Witnesses reported that an unidentified vehicle struck Shahin Alam and fled the scene immediately, leaving him critically injured on the road. The nature of the vehicle remains unknown, and no driver has yet been identified.

Following an emergency call to the national helpline ‘999’, a patrol team from the Jorarganj Highway Police Station quickly arrived at the location. Officers rescued the injured teenager and transported him to the Mirsarai Upazila Health Complex (Mastannagar Hospital) for urgent medical treatment. Despite efforts by attending physicians, Shahin Alam was declared dead while undergoing treatment.

Police confirmed that legal procedures have been completed, and the body was handed over to the family for burial.

The Jorarganj Highway Police Officer-in-Charge, Sharifuzzaman Bhuiyan, verified the incident, stating that law enforcement responded promptly after receiving the emergency call, but the victim’s injuries proved fatal.

The Dhaka–Chattogram Highway is one of the busiest transport corridors in the country, frequently witnessing accidents involving pedestrians, particularly in areas where local residents must cross high-speed traffic lanes due to limited designated crossing points.

Authorities have reiterated the importance of caution when crossing major highways and have urged drivers to remain vigilant, especially in populated stretches where pedestrian movement is common.
