A tragic road accident in the Nachole Upazila has claimed the life of a 54-year-old farmer after a cattle-laden locally operated vehicle lost control and overturned into a canal beneath a culvert.
The deceased, Entajul Haque, was the son of the late Tofozzal Hossain of Salalpur Namotola village in Nachole. According to family members and police reports, the incident occurred on Wednesday night at approximately 10:00 p.m. while he was returning home from a local cattle market.
He was travelling on a traditional motorised rural vehicle, commonly used for transporting livestock, which was carrying unsold cattle back from the market. As the vehicle approached a curved section near a culvert in Sanpur village, it reportedly lost control and overturned. The impact caused the vehicle to plunge into a roadside canal.

Following the accident, two other passengers and two cattle also fell into the water. Local residents rushed to the scene after hearing cries for help and managed to pull the occupants from the canal. However, Entajul Haque had already sustained critical injuries after being trapped beneath the overturned vehicle.
He was immediately taken to the Chapainawabganj District Hospital, where attending physicians declared him dead upon arrival.
Police from Sukomal Chandra Debnath confirmed that law enforcement officers later recovered the body and completed the necessary legal formalities before handing it over to the bereaved family. Authorities also stated that a case is in the process of being filed in connection with the incident.
Preliminary observations suggest that the accident may have been caused by loss of control at a sharp bend near the culvert, a section reportedly considered hazardous for heavy or overloaded vehicles, particularly at night. Local residents have long expressed concerns about road safety conditions in rural market routes, where livestock transport is common but safety infrastructure remains limited.
The incident has cast a pall of grief over Salalpur Namotola village, where the victim was known as a hardworking farmer engaged in agriculture and livestock trading. Community members have called for improved road safety measures, particularly around culverts and narrow bends frequently used by rural transport vehicles.
Authorities are expected to investigate whether overloading, road design, or mechanical failure contributed to the fatal crash.
