Two Teenagers Drown in Rangpur Tragedy

Two teenage boys have tragically lost their lives after drowning in a pond in Pirganj upazila of Rangpur district, leaving the local community in deep shock and mourning.

The incident occurred on Thursday (21 May) at around midday in Kathalpara village under Chhatra Union. The deceased have been identified as Tamim, aged 13, son of Nuru Mia, and Sadman, aged 14, son of Suruj Mia. The two boys were close relatives, described locally as cousins, and shared a strong family bond.

According to local sources, the tragedy unfolded when four friends went to a nearby pond for bathing during the midday hours. What began as a routine swim quickly turned catastrophic when Tamim and Sadman are believed to have drifted into deeper waters. Unable to return to safety, both boys submerged and failed to resurface.

Their two accompanying friends immediately raised an alarm, shouting for help and drawing the attention of nearby residents. Local villagers rushed to the scene and initiated a search operation in the pond. After a prolonged effort, both boys were recovered from the water and hurried to Pirganj Upazila Health Complex. However, attending physicians declared them dead upon arrival.

Local administrative and community representatives expressed profound grief over the incident. Enamul Haque, Chairman of Chhatra Union Parishad, described the event as deeply heartbreaking and said that the entire locality had been engulfed in mourning following the loss of two young lives. He extended his condolences to the bereaved families.

The sudden deaths have cast a shadow over the village, where residents gathered to console the grieving families. Relatives and neighbours described Tamim and Sadman as lively and friendly children whose untimely demise has created an irreplaceable void.
