Five young men lost their lives in two separate motorcycle accidents over two consecutive days in Bogura. The fatal incidents occurred on the day of Eid-ul-Fitr and the following day, turning festive celebrations into mourning for the families involved. Authorities and local witnesses reported that both collisions resulted from high speeds and a lack of vehicle control on regional roads.
The first accident took place on Eid day, Thursday 28 May, at approximately 8:45 pm. The incident occurred in the Shubhagacha area on the Sherpur-Dhunot regional road in Bogura, involving a three-way motorcycle collision. The crash resulted in the immediate deaths of two close friends, identified as Abu Raihan, aged 20, and Tamim Hossain, aged 20.
According to local residents, the youths had gone out on a motorcycle ride to celebrate the Eid festival. Whilst travelling through the Shubhagacha area, their motorcycle collided head-on with another speeding motorcycle coming from the opposite direction. Immediately after the initial impact, a third motorcycle arriving from behind struck the crashed vehicles, compounding the severity of the accident. Abu Raihan died on the spot due to the impact, while Tamim Hossain succumbed to his injuries whilst being transported to a nearby hospital. Furthermore, four other individuals sustained injuries during the pile-up and were hospitalised for medical treatment.
Less than twenty-four hours later, a second fatal motorcycle accident occurred on Friday 29 May at around 6:15 pm. This incident took place in the Baromail area of Kahaloo Upazila in Bogura. The crash claimed the lives of three friends from the neighbouring Naogaon district: Rahim, aged 21, Apurbo, aged 18, and Prem, aged 20.
Eyewitnesses reported that the three youths were riding together on a single motorcycle at an extremely high speed despite active rainfall. The vehicle’s silencer pipe had been modified, causing it to emit a distinctively loud noise. Due to the wet weather, the road surface was hazardous and slippery. Witnesses stated that the motorcycle was swerving uncontrollably across the tarmac before colliding head-on with another motorcycle approaching from the opposite direction. The force of the head-on collision caused all three riders to die at the scene before emergency medical assistance could arrive.
