Two young people have been killed following a head-on collision between a private car and a battery-operated local three-wheeler, locally known as a ‘Bibatech’, in Narsingdi’s Shibpur Upazila. The fatal accident occurred on Saturday (30 May) at approximately 11:30 am on the Itakhola-Monohardi regional highway, specifically in the Ashrafpur area situated between Kumartek and Monurtek.
According to police officials and local sources, the private car was travelling along the Itakhola-Monohardi regional highway when it collided directly with the oncoming battery-operated three-wheeler. The impact of the collision left three individuals—the driver of the three-wheeler and two of its passengers—severely injured.
Local residents rushed to the scene immediately after the crash to rescue the victims and transported them to the nearby Shibpur Upazila Health Complex. Upon arrival, the attending medical officer pronounced one of the passengers, a young boy named Junaid Sheikh, dead.
The driver of the three-wheeler, Rubel Sheikh, was initially admitted to the same facility with critical injuries. Due to the severity of his condition, doctors referred him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for advanced treatment. However, he succumbed to his injuries whilst en route to the hospital in Dhaka. The third victim, Mahfuja, who is the mother of the deceased Junaid Sheikh, survived the initial impact and remains under medical care at the hospital.

Following the incident, law enforcement officers from the Shibpur Model Thana arrived at the site to secure the area, manage traffic flow on the regional highway, and initiate preliminary inquiries.
The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shibpur Model Police Station, Mohammad Kohinur Miah, officially confirmed the details of the collision and the subsequent fatalities. He stated that the bodies of the two deceased individuals have been handed over to their respective families. This administrative release was executed in accordance with official procedures following formal applications submitted by the grieving relatives requesting the exemption of post-mortem examinations. Further legal formalities regarding the road traffic accident are being processed by the local police.
