Ex-Student Leader Faces Rape Allegations

A former joint secretary of the Narayanganj Metropolitan unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) has been accused in a rape case filed by a woman who is the mother of one child. The complainant alleges that the accused lured her to a residence on the pretext of helping her with a legal case involving her husband, where she was sexually assaulted. She also claims that the accused later used an intimate video to repeatedly blackmail and abuse her over several months.

The accused, Mehedi Hasan Farhan, 32, is a former Joint Secretary of the Narayanganj Metropolitan JCD. Originally from Muladi in Barishal district, he previously lived in Jalkuri under Siddhirganj and currently resides in the Khanpur Power Colony area under Narayanganj Sadar Police Station. According to the complaint, he is also seeking the presidency of the party’s forthcoming metropolitan committee.

The complainant, whose family home is in Uzirpur of Barishal district, currently lives in a rented house in the Bhuighar area of Kutubpur Union under Fatullah, Narayanganj.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), the alleged incident began on 1 December last year. The complainant states that Farhan offered to assist her in a court case she had filed against her husband and persuaded her to accompany him to a friend’s residence in the Dhakeshwari area of Godnail, Siddhirganj. She alleges that she was raped there and that the assault was secretly recorded on a mobile phone.

The FIR further alleges that the accused subsequently threatened to publish the video on social media unless she complied with his demands. Under that threat, she claims she was repeatedly summoned to different locations and sexually assaulted three to four times every month. According to the complaint, when members of her family became aware of the situation, the accused allegedly promised to marry her in an attempt to resolve the matter.

The complainant also alleges that on 15 April this year, she was taken to a rented house in Mohammadbag under Kadamtali Police Station in the capital on the pretext of reaching a settlement. The residence reportedly belonged to one of Farhan’s friends, Hridoy Hasan Abir. She claims that Farhan later handed her over to another associate, identified as Arman, and that she was raped throughout the night.

Following the incident, the woman filed a rape case at Kadamtali Police Station on 17 April 2026, naming two accused. The case was registered as Case No. 31, dated 17 April 2026. She has expressed frustration that, despite more than three months having passed since the case was filed, the principal accused has not been arrested and continues to move about openly.

Responding to the allegations, Mehedi Hasan Farhan has categorically denied any wrongdoing. He claimed that the complainant had previously married her husband through deception and later filed assault and abuse cases to obtain financial benefits related to the marriage settlement. Farhan further alleged that certain members of his own political organisation, acting in collusion with the complainant, orchestrated what he described as a false rape case in an attempt to damage his reputation ahead of the formation of the party’s new committee, in which he is a presidential aspirant.

The investigating officer, Sub-Inspector Md Sohel Rana of Kadamtali Police Station, confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing. He said statements are being recorded and evidence is being collected as part of the inquiry. He also noted that the complainant’s medical examination report has not yet been received. According to the officer, two individuals have been named as accused in the case, but no arrests have been made so far.

The allegations and the accused’s denial remain subject to police investigation. No court has yet determined the veracity of the claims, and the legal proceedings are continuing.
