Four More Die With Measles Symptoms Nationwide

Bangladesh recorded four additional deaths among people showing symptoms consistent with measles over the past 24 hours, while no deaths were confirmed to have been caused by laboratory-confirmed measles during the same period. The latest fatalities have pushed the combined death toll from confirmed measles and suspected measles cases to 820 since 15 March.

The information was released on Sunday in an official statement issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). The latest figures cover the 24-hour period from 8:00 a.m. on Saturday to 8:00 a.m. on Sunday.

According to the DGHS, a total of 95 people have died after being diagnosed with confirmed measles since the outbreak began. Another 725 people have died after developing symptoms associated with the disease, although their infections were not confirmed through laboratory testing. Together, these figures bring the cumulative death toll to 820.

Of the four deaths reported during the latest reporting period, two occurred in the Mymensingh Division. The remaining two fatalities were recorded in the Dhaka and Barishal divisions, with one death reported in each region. No confirmed measles-related deaths were registered during the same 24-hour period.

Health authorities also reported 170 newly confirmed measles infections over the past day. This has increased the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases recorded this year to 15,442.

The number of suspected infections also continued to rise. During the latest reporting period, 990 more people were identified as having symptoms consistent with measles. As a result, the cumulative number of suspected measles cases has reached 123,753 since 15 March.

The latest figures indicate that both confirmed infections and suspected cases continue to place pressure on the country’s public health surveillance system. While confirmed cases are verified through testing, suspected cases are recorded based on clinical symptoms and remain under observation or further assessment where necessary.

The Directorate General of Health Services continues to publish regular updates on the country’s measles situation, tracking new infections, suspected cases and fatalities through its routine surveillance system. The latest data show that although no confirmed measles deaths were reported in the past 24 hours, new infections and symptom-based cases continue to be identified across different parts of the country, underscoring the ongoing monitoring of the outbreak.
