Bloodbath At CRPF Camp Leaves Three Soldiers Dead

A tragic and horrific fratricide incident unfolded in the northeastern Indian state of Assam on Tuesday morning, after an officer belonging to the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) opened fire on his fellow colleagues, killing two personnel and injuring another before taking his own life. The deadly shooting took place around 7:30 AM within the premises of the 34th Battalion CRPF camp located in Katimari under the Nagaon district.

According to official updates provided by Nagaon Deputy Superintendent of Police (Headquarters) Paramita Sarkar, the primary perpetrator was identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI/GD) Ballani Premabaram, a native of Andhra Pradesh. On Tuesday morning, Premabaram was assigned duty at the main entrance gate of the military facility. However, he was unequipped with an assigned firearm at the time.

The sequence of events escalated rapidly when Premabaram walked into the guardroom, seized an INSAS service rifle, and moved toward the rear section of the quarter guard. Without warning, he opened fire on Head Constable (HV/GD) Vishnu Prasad Baghel, who collapsed on the spot after sustaining lethal gunshot wounds. Premabaram then turned the weapon toward Sub-Inspector (SI/GD) Ramnawal Singh Yadav, who had arrived at the Nagaon camp from Lucknow for document verification work. Yadav was struck by bullets and died instantly at the scene.

Chaos and Investigation inside the Camp

Continuing his violent rampage, the shooter fired at another colleague, identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Govind Sripul, inflicting severe injuries. Following the rampage, Premabaram walked into the camp’s barracks and turned the INSAS rifle on himself, dying immediately from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The injured officer, Govind Sripul, was immediately rushed by camp authorities to a local private medical facility in Nagaon for emergency treatment. As his condition remained critical, medical staff subsequently transferred him to the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for advanced surgical intervention.

Senior CRPF commandants and Nagaon Senior Superintendent of Police Partha Pratim Das arrived at the camp shortly after the incident to secure the area and initiate high-level inquiries. While preliminary reports suggest potential mental distress, authorities confirmed that the exact motive behind the sudden shooting spree remains under active investigation. Legal proceedings and inquests are currently underway to piece together the events leading to the tragedy.
