Arms Seized in Banchharampur Raid

Police in Brahmanbaria’s Banchharampur upazila have arrested a young man and recovered an illegal firearm, ammunition and an unregistered motorcycle during a special overnight operation.

According to police, the arrest was made at approximately 2:15 am on Wednesday night following intelligence reports regarding suspicious movements in the area. Acting on the information, a patrol team from Banchharampur Model Police Station established a temporary checkpoint on a paved road in front of the residence of Abdul Aziz. Officers then began searching individuals and vehicles passing through the area.

During the operation, police detained 22-year-old Siddikur Rahman, son of Atikur Rahman of Barail village in neighbouring Nabinagar upazila. A subsequent search allegedly led to the recovery of a locally manufactured LG firearm, two rounds of ammunition and a motorcycle bearing no registration number.

Police officials said that two companions travelling with the suspect managed to flee after becoming aware of the police presence. The escaped individuals were identified as Amit, 23, and Limon, 19. Law-enforcement personnel have launched efforts to locate and apprehend both men.

Items Recovered During the Operation

The seizure forms part of ongoing police efforts to curb the possession and movement of illegal firearms in the region. Temporary checkpoints and intelligence-led patrols are frequently used by law-enforcement agencies to monitor criminal activity, intercept suspects and prevent the transportation of prohibited weapons.

Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Yasin of Banchharampur Model Police Station confirmed the recovery and seizure of the firearm, ammunition and motorcycle. He stated that all items had been taken into custody in accordance with legal procedures and would be presented as evidence during the judicial process.

A case has been filed under the Arms Act against the arrested suspect as well as the two individuals who escaped from the scene. Investigators are currently examining the circumstances surrounding the possession of the weapon and are attempting to determine whether it was connected to any other criminal activity.

Police officials said operations to arrest the remaining suspects are continuing. They added that further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation and any additional evidence collected during the course of the inquiry.

The incident highlights the continued emphasis placed by law-enforcement authorities on preventing the circulation of illegal weapons and strengthening public security through targeted enforcement operations across the district.
