Israeli air strikes on residential areas of Gaza City have reportedly killed at least nine Palestinians, including four children, according to local medical sources and Palestinian officials. The attacks occurred late on Wednesday night and targeted four apartment buildings across different parts of the city.
Reports indicate that the strikes were carried out without any prior evacuation warnings being issued to residents. Rescue teams and civil defence workers continued search operations through the night, fearing that additional victims could remain trapped beneath the rubble.
Initial information from Gaza’s Al-Shifa Hospital suggested that six people had been killed in the attacks. However, as recovery efforts progressed, the death toll was revised upwards to nine. Several other civilians, including women and children, were injured. Medical personnel reported that a number of the wounded were in critical condition and receiving emergency treatment.
The latest strikes took place despite the existence of a ceasefire arrangement between Israel and the Palestinian group Hamas. Although the truce was intended to reduce hostilities and facilitate humanitarian relief efforts, both sides have continued to accuse each other of violations.
According to Gaza’s Government Media Office, which operates under Hamas administration, Israel has allegedly breached the ceasefire more than 3,000 times since the agreement came into effect on 1 October last year. Palestinian officials claim that these alleged violations have resulted in the deaths of at least 900 Palestinians and left more than 2,000 others injured.
The Israeli military has frequently stated that its operations are directed at militant infrastructure and armed groups operating within Gaza. Palestinian authorities, meanwhile, argue that civilian areas have repeatedly come under attack, leading to significant loss of life and widespread destruction of homes and public facilities.

The humanitarian situation in Gaza remains severe after many months of conflict. Since the outbreak of war in October 2023, large sections of the territory have suffered extensive damage, while hospitals, shelters and essential infrastructure have faced enormous strain.
Palestinian authorities further report that more than 9,500 people have been listed as missing since the beginning of the conflict. Among those unaccounted for are approximately 4,700 women and children. Humanitarian organisations have repeatedly warned that many missing individuals may remain buried under collapsed buildings or in areas that rescue teams have been unable to reach safely.
The latest deaths underscore the continuing fragility of the ceasefire and the persistent risks faced by civilians across Gaza, where humanitarian concerns remain acute and efforts to secure a lasting cessation of hostilities have yet to achieve a durable outcome.
