A horrifying incident in Mohali, Punjab, has shocked the local community after a young woman was brutally murdered by her colleague and former partner inside their workplace, followed by the attacker’s failed attempt to take his own life.
According to reports published by Indian media on Friday (5 June), the victim, identified as Dimple, was employed at a private logistics firm alongside Harvinder Mann, also known as Harry. What began as a heated exchange over a strained romantic relationship escalated into a savage act of violence in full view of staff members.
Police investigations, supported by CCTV footage recovered from the office, indicate that Harry entered the premises at approximately 7:40 pm on Thursday evening. At the time, Dimple was seated at her workstation. Without warning, Harry approached her from behind and launched a series of knife attacks. In a desperate attempt to escape, she ran towards the exit, but was allegedly dragged back by her hair and repeatedly stabbed near the doorway.
Despite intervention attempts by several colleagues present at the scene, the attack continued with extreme brutality. Even after Dimple collapsed and became motionless, Harry is reported to have inflicted multiple further stab wounds. Witnesses described the scene as chaotic and deeply distressing, with staff ultimately unable to stop the assault.
In a shocking turn, Harry then reportedly returned to Dimple’s workstation area and inflicted over 30 self-stab wounds to his own neck in an apparent suicide attempt.
Emergency services were called immediately, and both individuals were rushed to Fortis Hospital. Medical staff declared Dimple dead on arrival, while Harry remains in a critical and highly unstable condition under intensive care.
Police officials stated that the pair had been working together for nearly three years at a private “packers and movers” company and had previously been in a romantic relationship. However, the relationship had recently broken down. Investigators believe Harry had been attempting to reconcile, but Dimple had firmly refused, leading to emotional distress and the subsequent violent outburst.
Authorities have informed the families of both individuals, who are residents of Patiala, Punjab. A formal murder case has been registered, and forensic teams have recovered the blood-stained weapon and other key evidence from the crime scene.
Investigators are now examining mobile phone records and social media conversations to establish the full sequence of events and determine any prior warning signs.
