Tanzim Sakib Details Injury Recovery

Bangladesh fast bowler Tanzim Sakib has provided an update on his ongoing recovery from a lower back injury, offering clarity amid widespread speculation regarding his fitness status and recent absence from international selection.

The pacer has been sidelined from national duty since sustaining a back injury towards the end of May this year. The issue subsequently ruled him out of Bangladesh’s squad for the series against Australia, raising concerns among fans and media about the severity of his condition and expected return timeline.

Addressing the matter publicly for the first time, Sakib took to social media to explain that medical assessments had confirmed a fracture in his lumbar region. He noted that the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) medical unit had consulted with a specialist surgeon in New Zealand as well as the support staff of a leading international cricket team before agreeing on a conservative recovery approach based on natural healing rather than immediate surgical intervention.

According to his statement, the rehabilitation process is expected to be gradual and closely monitored. A follow-up MRI scan is planned after approximately six to seven weeks to assess bone healing and determine whether the fracture has properly united. Only after medical clearance will he begin structured rehabilitation, followed by a carefully managed return to bowling workloads.

Sakib emphasised that he is currently observing a strict rest period and avoiding any physical strain. He also acknowledged that the recovery process is time-consuming and cannot be rushed, particularly given the nature of bone-related injuries in fast bowlers, where premature return can significantly increase the risk of recurrence.
