Two people, including a young motorcyclist and his brother-in-law, were killed after a head-on collision between a passenger bus and a motorcycle in Barguna district on Friday night. The accident occurred at approximately 8:30 pm on the Dhaka–Kuakata Highway in front of Shakharia Secondary School in Amtali Upazila.
The deceased were identified as Md Sajib Hawlader, 25, son of Madhu Hawlader of Laluya village in Kalapara Upazila of Patuakhali, and his brother-in-law Saiful Islam, 16. Another teenager, Asadul Islam, 14, who is Saiful’s younger brother, sustained injuries in the crash and is currently undergoing treatment at Patuakhali Medical College Hospital.
According to information provided by Amtali Police Station and family members of the victims, Sajib Hawlader was travelling towards Kalapara on a motorcycle with his two brothers-in-law, Saiful Islam and Asadul Islam. They had departed from the Shakharia area of Amtali Upazila and were proceeding along the highway when the accident occurred.
At the time of the incident, a passenger bus belonging to Gazi Samrat Paribahan was travelling from Kuakata. The bus and the motorcycle collided head-on in front of Shakharia Secondary School. The impact was severe, resulting in fatal injuries to the motorcycle riders.
Police said that Sajib Hawlader, who was riding the motorcycle, died at the scene. Local residents and emergency responders subsequently rescued the two injured passengers and transported them to Patuakhali Medical College Hospital for treatment.
Despite receiving medical attention, Saiful Islam later succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at the hospital. Asadul Islam remains under medical care.

Speaking about the incident, Amtali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abu Shahadat Md Hasnain said that a passenger bus travelling from Kuakata struck the motorcycle, leading to the immediate death of one rider. The two injured victims were taken to hospital, where another later died from his injuries.
The officer further stated that the bus driver and his assistant fled the scene following the accident. Police have begun the process of taking legal action in connection with the incident.
Road accidents involving buses and motorcycles remain a recurring concern on regional highways, particularly on routes carrying significant passenger traffic. Authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision as part of the legal proceedings now under way.
The injured survivor continues to receive treatment, while police efforts are focused on tracing those responsible and completing the necessary legal formalities related to the fatal crash.
