The Rajshahi Metropolitan Police have successfully apprehended a young man implicated in the targeted stabbing and severe wounding of a secondary school student within the Motihar Thana territory of Rajshahi city. The operational units belonging to the Boalia Thana executed the arrest following a coordinated tracking mission. Authorities identified the captured individual as Samiul Siraj, who is widely known by his alias, Sijan.
The violent incident transpired on Sunday morning, 7 June 2026, at approximately 11:00 am local time. The victim, a female student who is actively preparing for her upcoming Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations, was walking to her educational institution accompanied by two female school friends. As the three young girls arrived at a location directly in front of the Diamond Tower structure, situated within the Talaimari Principalpara residential block, the suspect intercepted their path and blocked them from moving forward.
According to the official investigative briefings provided by local law enforcement, the interception quickly escalated into a physical assault. Acting upon a suspected pre-existing personal dispute, the accused drew a sharp weapon and repeatedly struck the young student. The sudden attack left the victim with extensive and severe lacerations across her arm and on one side of her abdomen.
Immediately after inflicting the knife wounds, the assailant fled the location to evade capture. The victim’s two classmates managed to assist the severely injured student, transporting her away from the crime scene directly to the emergency department of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH). Medical personnel at the facility immediately admitted the student to provide urgent surgical treatment for her substantial hand and abdominal injuries.
Upon receiving the report concerning the daylight attack on a female student, the Police Commissioner of the Rajshahi Metropolitan Police, Mohammad Fayzul Kabir, took personal charge of the situation. Recognizing the severity of the crime, the commissioner designated the investigation as a matter of critical priority and deployed multiple specialized tactical teams with explicit instructions to track down and detain the fleeing suspect.
Under the direct supervision of the metropolitan police leadership, the Boalia Thana police force launched a series of synchronized raids across various urban hiding spots. By leveraging local intelligence networks, the tracking units managed to narrow down the suspect’s movements, culminating in a successful raid within the Tikapara Basar Road residential sector, which falls under the territorial jurisdiction of the Boalia Thana.
Senior police officials confirmed that the entire search, identification, and capture operation was completed in less than three hours. The swift response, resulting in the arrest of the suspect within exactly two and a half hours of the crime, has drawn considerable appreciation from residents and community leaders in Rajshahi, who expressed relief at the rapid restoration of local order.
“Our operational units acted with absolute urgency to ensure the suspect was brought into legal custody before he could escape the metropolitan boundaries,” stated a spokesperson for the Rajshahi Metropolitan Police. “The swift resolution demonstrates our commitment to student safety.”
The legal procedures required to formally charge the suspect are currently being processed by the police department. Law enforcement teams are gathering forensic evidence from the Diamond Tower crime scene, documenting testimonies from the two eyewitnesses, and checking for any prior criminal records linked to Samiul Siraj. The Rajshahi Metropolitan Police reiterated that strict statutory measures will be pursued as the official case file is prepared for presentation before the judicial courts of Bangladesh.
