A video clip of a flash protest (jhotika michil) organized by a section of Chhatra League leaders and activists in Kurigram district has gone viral on social media. Following its publication online, the incident has triggered mixed reactions and intense speculation among local political circles and the general public in Kurigram. On Sunday, June 7, the video of this flash protest was officially released and promoted on the central Chhatra League’s dedicated Facebook page.
According to information obtained from reliable local sources and eyewitnesses:
Date & Time: The controversial program took place last Friday (June 5) at around 1:00 PM.
Organizer: It was organized by the Ulipur Upazila unit of Chhatra League in Kurigram district.
Location: Activists gathered and launched the procession on a main rural road near the Tengnakura Bridge in the Naora area, under the Dhamshreni Union of the upazila.
Note: The procession was conducted with utmost secrecy and ended abruptly, with participants fleeing the scene within a very short period.
An analysis of the approximately 2-minute-and-40-second video circulating on social media revealed the following details:
Masked Participants: Almost all individuals participating in the procession had their faces covered with masks.
Group Size: Around 18 to 20 teenagers and young men were seen chanting various political slogans collectively on that rural road.
Intent: Local sources suggest that the participants intentionally and systematically wore masks to conceal their identities and evade surveillance by law enforcement agencies.
Following the widespread circulation of the video showcasing such overt activities, the matter caught the attention of local law enforcement.
Kamal Kishore, the Police Inspector (Investigation) of Ulipur Upazila Police Station, informed the media that the local police are already aware of the flash protest video and the administration is investigating the matter with high priority. He further stated that the police and intelligence departments are analyzing the video footage to specifically identify the masked individuals involved. Once their identities are confirmed through digital and local intelligence, strict legal action will be taken against them in accordance with the country’s existing laws.
Local residents of Kurigram remarked that gathering in broad daylight in a rural area to hold a procession, followed by the central page broadcasting its video, is a significant development regarding the local law enforcement situation.
The police administration has announced that security and intelligence surveillance have been beefed up in the Ulipur Police Station area of Kurigram to prevent any untoward incidents. Police patrolling has been increased in the area since the incident, and drives are underway to arrest those involved.
