An elderly man has been beaten to death in Manda Upazila under Naogaon District following a dispute that originated from plucking mangoes from a tree. The incident transpired at approximately 8:30 am on Monday, 8 June, in Hatoir village, located within the Paranpur Union. Law enforcement authorities have confirmed the detention of two suspects, a father and his son, in connection with the fatal assault. The body of the deceased has been recovered and sent to a local hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination.
According to police and local residents, the conflict began on the afternoon of Thursday, 4 June. An eight-year-old child named Shakil, the son of a local resident named Imran Hossain, plucked several mangoes from a tree belonging to a neighbour, Jalal Hossain. Following this action, an individual named Abdul Momin physically assaulted the child by slapping him, which subsequently triggered a bitter dispute between the two families.
In retaliation for the physical disciplining of the child, Imran Hossain and his associates assembled en masse on Monday morning. The group launched a coordinated assault on Abdul Momin’s residence, vandalising the property. When family members attempted to intervene and halt the destruction, the attackers beat them, leaving Meherunnesa, 50, Mehedi Hasan, 28, Abdul Momin, 26, and an eight-year-old child named Riyan severely injured.
A local resident identified as Sohel reported that as community members rescued the injured victims and attempted to transport them to the hospital for medical treatment, they were ambushed on a paved road adjacent to the house by the opposing faction.
During this second confrontation, an elderly bystander, Taifur Rahman Molla, 65, intervened to stop the violence. The attackers subsequently turned on him, beating him severely. Due to the severity of the injuries inflicted during the assault, Taifur Rahman Molla died at the scene. The deceased was identified as the son of the late Dina Molla and a permanent resident of Hatoir village.
