Two separate fatal attacks have occurred within the jurisdiction of the Pabna District, resulting in the deaths of two individuals. In the first incident, a 53-year-old man identified as Hossen Ali was shot dead by unidentified miscreants in broad daylight in front of his young son. In an unrelated development earlier the same day, a student named Monirul from the Santhia area was stabbed to death near the Pabna Bus Terminal, prompting a swift police response and the subsequent detention of a suspect.
According to validated statements from the family of the deceased and local law enforcement authorities, the shooting occurred on Monday, 8 June, at approximately 7:30 pm. The victim, Hossen Ali, was a resident of the Jafarabad locality within the Gayeshpur Union of Pabna Sadar Upazila. He was employed as a staff member at the Jamia Ashrafia Madrasah, situated within the Masum Bazar area of Pabna town.
The physical attack took place when Hossen Ali arrived at the educational institution on a motorcycle to drop off his son, who is a student at the madrasah. The victim’s family stated that the child was directly present at the scene when the incident occurred.
A group of miscreants, who had been lying in wait for the victim, targeted Hossen Ali and fired two consecutive rounds of ammunition at him. Witnesses and family members reported that the assailants subsequently reloaded their weapon and discharged several additional rounds of bullets. Hossen Ali sustained critical gunshot wounds during the targeted ambush. Local residents immediately rescued the heavily bleeding victim and transported him to a nearby medical facility. However, the attending doctor on duty conducted an assessment and officially pronounced him dead.
The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Pabna Sadar Police Station, Tarikul Islam, confirmed the details of the homicide, stating that the premeditated attack occurred around 6:45 pm to 7:30 pm as the victim arrived with his son. He noted that the miscreants fled the scene immediately after ensuring the fatal outcome of the shooting.
In an entirely separate incident occurring earlier on the same day, at approximately 4:00 pm, a student named Monirul was fatally stabbed in the Pabna Bus Terminal area. Monirul, a resident of Santhia, had recently disembarked from a passenger bus and was on his way into Pabna town when he was intercepted and assaulted with a sharp weapon by attackers.
Following the stabbing, local citizens quickly rescued the wounded student from the location and attempted to transfer him to a hospital for emergency medical attention. However, Monirul succumbed to his severe injuries and died while en route to the medical facility.
Upon being notified of the terminal stabbing, the Pabna police initiated a targeted operation in the area to locate the individuals involved. As a direct result of this swift law enforcement drive, the police successfully tracked down and detained a young man named Rakib, who hails from the same locality, in connection with the fatal stabbing.
Law enforcement officials have recovered both bodies from their respective locations and transferred them to the Pabna General Hospital morgue for necessary post-mortem examinations. The police administration stated that the exact underlying motives behind both separate killings remain undetermined at this initial stage.
The Pabna Sadar Police and relevant investigative teams are currently conducting extensive inquiries, gathering evidence, and questioning witnesses to establish why and by whom these two independent acts of violence were perpetrated within the district.
