Two Female Relatives Arrested With Illegal Drugs

The Department of Narcotics Control (DNC) has apprehended two women, who are related to each other as sisters-in-law (mothers-in-law of each other’s children), for allegedly trafficking a substantial quantity of Yaba tablets inside vanity bags. The law enforcement operation was executed in the early evening hours of Monday, 8 June, in the Chokjadu Cross Lane area located within Bogra town. The individuals detained during the targeted sweep have been identified by authorities as 45-year-old Bulbuli Begum and 38-year-old Najma Begum.

Interception at the Commercial Complex

According to formal statements validated by senior officials within the anti-narcotics agency, the successful operation was initiated following the receipt of specific and confidential intelligence. Armed with intelligence reports detailing an ongoing narcotics transaction, a specialized team of personnel from the Department of Narcotics Control Bogra unit deployed to the designated urban area. The operational team strategically positioned themselves in front of the state-owned Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) Market complex, situated on Chokjadu Cross Lane in the heart of Bogra town.

During the surveillance operation at the commercial location, the DNC personnel intercepted the two female suspects based on their movements. Following their initial interception, the female officers within the deployment group proceeded to conduct a thorough search of the personal vanity bags carried by the two suspects.

The physical search of the bags yielded a total of 1,500 individual pieces of contraband Yaba tablets hidden inside the compartments. Law enforcement officials immediately seized the illegal psychotropic substances along with the personal bags used to conceal them.

Suspect Profiles and Transaction Motives

The administrative records compiled by the law enforcement personnel revealed that the two women share a specific domestic relationship, being related to one another through the marriage of their respective children. The first suspect, Bulbuli Begum, is a permanent resident of Dakshin Basudebpur village, located within the Hakimpur upazila of the neighbouring Dinajpur district. The second suspect, Najma Begum, resides permanently in the Chokshutrapur locality situated within Bogra town itself.

The initial investigation conducted by the Department of Narcotics Control detailed the specific supply chain and transactional roles played by the two related suspects. The counter-narcotics agency established that Bulbuli Begum had specifically travelled from her residential village in the Dinajpur district to the urban centre of Bogra town to procure the consignment of Yaba tablets directly from her local relative, Najma Begum, who was acting as the supplier. The illicit exchange was meant to be finalized inside the town before the contraband could be trafficked to other regions.

Official Statements and Legal Measures

The Deputy Director of the Department of Narcotics Control Bogra division, Zillur Rahman, formally confirmed the details of the arrests and the chemical seizure to members of the press. He stated that the agency’s proactive stance against the distribution of illicit drugs led to the timely interception of the trafficking attempt.

The senior director confirmed that both Bulbuli Begum and Najma Begum were taken into custody and transported to the local station house for detailed booking procedures. The DNC administration has initiated the process to file formal criminal charges against the two suspects under the Narcotics Control Act. The law enforcement agency stated that the seized chemical substances would be kept as evidence, and the suspects would be presented before the judicial magistrate court to face official prosecution.
