Tehran has subsequently warned that it would retaliate against any further attacks.
According to Reuters, citing Iranian state media, the United States launched strikes on Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz. Iranian authorities also confirmed that a missile struck Sirik, a port city situated along the strategically important waterway.
Iranian media, quoting local sources and residents, reported that explosions were heard in nearby Bandar Abbas. Additional blasts were later reported around Jask County, close to the entrance of the Strait of Hormuz. The reports indicate that the incidents occurred in areas of considerable strategic significance for maritime traffic and regional security.

Following the strikes, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi issued a warning through a post on X, stating that Iran would not leave any attack or threat unanswered. His comments underscored Tehran’s position that it would respond to actions it considers hostile.
The latest developments follow an incident on Monday in which a United States Army AH-64 attack helicopter crashed near the Strait of Hormuz. The United States attributed responsibility for the incident to Iran.
Speaking after the helicopter was brought down, President Donald Trump emphasised the need for a response. He stated that it was important to react after what he described as Iran’s role in the destruction of the helicopter. Trump said, “I think responding is very important. They brought down one of our helicopters, and now we are doing what we said we would do.”
In further remarks to ABC News, the US president argued that the response should be firm and forceful. He stated that any reaction to such an incident should be “hard and strong”.
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most strategically significant maritime routes, serving as a key passage for global energy shipments. As a result, military activity in and around the waterway is closely monitored by governments and international markets.
The exchange of military actions and warnings between Washington and Tehran marks a further escalation in tensions in the region. Both sides have publicly stated their positions following the helicopter incident and the subsequent strikes, while international observers continue to monitor developments around the Strait of Hormuz.
