Following notable performances against Pakistan and New Zealand, Bangladeshi fast bowler Nahid Rana has delivered a significant spell of bowling against Australia. Exhibiting considerable pace and bounce at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, Rana dismantled the Australian batting line-up, becoming a primary architect of Bangladesh’s historic One Day International (ODI) victory over Australia—their first in the format against this opposition in 21 years.
Rana’s exceptional performance has been rewarded in the latest International Cricket Council (ICC) Men’s ODI Player Rankings. The young bowler has surged 23 positions up the leaderboard, capturing the attention of the global cricketing community.
During the first ODI of the series in Mirpur, Rana produced a devastating spell of bowling against the visitors. He bowled his full quota of 10 overs, conceding a mere 41 runs whilst claiming four crucial wickets.
Following this landmark victory, the ICC released its updated weekly rankings, revealing substantial changes. Prior to this fixture, Rana was positioned at number 47 in the ODI bowling rankings. Following his four-wicket haul, he has accumulated 535 rating points, propelling him to the 24th position globally.
Despite Rana’s rapid ascent, Mehidy Hasan Miraz remains the highest-ranked Bangladeshi bowler in the ODI format. The Bangladesh captain possesses 618 rating points, maintaining his previous position at number eight in the world.
In contrast, the updated rankings brought a slight demotion for Bangladesh’s top-ranked batsman in this format, Towhid Hridoy. The middle-order batsman dropped one place down the standings, moving from the 26th position to 27th.
Beyond individual accolades, these algorithmic shifts carry significant implications for the national team’s collective ambitions. To secure direct qualification for the upcoming ICC Men’s ODI World Cup, Bangladesh must remain within the top nine positions of the official team rankings. Following the latest update, Bangladesh remains static in ninth place with 86 rating points, keeping their qualification prospects firmly on track.
The table below outlines the current standing of prominent Bangladeshi players and the national team following the latest ICC ranking update.
