Police in Narayanganj, in a coordinated operation with Rapid Action Battalion-11 (RAB-11), have arrested nine individuals on charges related to drug possession and distribution. The joint operation led to the recovery of yaba tablets, cannabis (locally known as ganja), and locally brewed illicit liquor.
According to police sources, the drive was conducted on Wednesday between 9:25 pm and 11:20 pm across several locations within the Narayanganj Sadar Police Station area. Acting on intelligence, law enforcement teams carried out simultaneous searches and detained the suspects along with various quantities of narcotics.
A total of 44 yaba tablets, 25 small packets of cannabis, and approximately five litres of illicit liquor were seized during the operation. Following the arrests, the confiscated items were documented through formal seizure lists in accordance with standard procedure.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Mitu Mia (40), Pavel (37), Robin Hossain (31), Hasibur Rahman Jihad (26), Mainuddin (25), Sharif Hossain (37), Rifat Mia (25), Dulal Mia (40), and Delwar Hossain (62). Police officials stated that several of the detainees have prior records linked to narcotics-related offences, indicating repeated involvement in drug trafficking activities within the region.
In particular, Mitu Mia is reported to have five ongoing drug-related cases, while Pavel is facing three separate cases under the narcotics control law. Authorities noted that investigations are ongoing to determine whether the remaining suspects are connected to wider distribution networks operating in and around Narayanganj.
A senior officer at Narayanganj Sadar Model Police Station confirmed that legal proceedings have already been initiated against the accused under the Narcotics Control Act. The arrested individuals are currently being prepared for court transfer, where they will be produced for further judicial action.
