The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has intercepted and seized a substantial consignment of contraband Indian sarees during a targeted anti-smuggling operation along the international border in Feni. According to official estimates provided by the paramilitary force, the market value of the confiscated textile goods stands at approximately 4,120,000 Bangladeshi Taka.
The enforcement action was executed during the early hours of Thursday, 11 June, by a specialized patrol detachment representing the Feni Battalion (4 BGB). The operations focused primarily on the strategic border corridors within the Chhagalnaiya and Fulgazi sub-districts (upazilas) of Feni District, which are known transit points for cross-border contraband traffic.
According to institutional sources within the BGB, the deployment was initiated following the receipt of precise intelligence indicators regarding an incoming smuggling attempt. Armed with this information, the 4 BGB special patrol unit established surveillance positions along suspected ingress routes.
As the BGB personnel closed in on the targeted location, the smugglers detected the physical presence of the border guards. To evade immediate arrest, the perpetrators abandoned their entire haul of illicit cargo on the terrain and fled into the darkness, utilising the complex border topography. A subsequent search of the immediate perimeter by the guards resulted in the recovery of the abandoned bundles containing the high-value Indian sarees. No suspects were apprehended during the sweep.
The details of the seizure were formally confirmed by Acting Commandant Billal Hossain of the Feni Battalion (4 BGB). He stated that administrative and legal procedures are actively underway to transfer the entire cache of seized textiles to the local customs authority for official logging, storage, and subsequent disposal.
Reflecting on the operation, Acting Commandant Hossain emphasised the continuous operational readiness of the border force:
“The BGB remains permanently vigilant along the border frontiers to ensure comprehensive territorial security, deter illegal entry, and rigorously prevent push-in attempts. Concurrently, our units maintain a strict mandate to counter narcotics trafficking and cross-border smuggling. To safeguard the nation’s economic and physical borders, the BGB has systematically intensified its intelligence surveillance and kinetic operational activities across all sectors.”
