Cautionary Signals Issued as Squalls Threaten Fifteen Regions

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has placed fifteen regions under an urgent weather alert, forecasting atmospheric instability characterised by gale-force winds, lightning, and heavy thundery showers. In response to the encroaching weather fronts, the state meteorological authority has directed all inland river ports within the affected zones to display Local Cautionary Signal Number One. The defensive protocol mandates that all commercial launches, passenger trawlers, and riverine vessels exercise heightened vigilance while navigating domestic waterways.

The internal maritime forecast was officially detailed by BMD meteorologist Mohammad Abdul Hamid Mia. The moving weather systems are expected to drive high-velocity winds originating primarily from the east and south-east directions.

Wind Velocity Projections and Affected Sectors

Weather models indicate that the designated areas will face sudden, volatile squalls, with sustained wind velocities gusting between 45 and 60 kilometres per hour. These tempestuous conditions are expected to trigger transient but severe disruptions, accompanied by widespread electrical storms and localized downpours.

The cautionary notice covers a significant portion of the country’s riverine geography, encompassing fifteen major internal territories. The specific regions impacted by the meteorology desk’s safety order span multiple divisions:

In its early morning national bulletin, the weather office outlined broader environmental patterns anticipated over the next twenty-four hours across the delta. Widespread atmospheric disturbances are expected to deliver light to moderate precipitation, frequently punctuated by sharp lightning flashes and unpredictable wind surges.

According to the bureau, these conditions will manifest across many areas within the Rangpur, Mymensingh, Barisal, Chittagong, and Sylhet divisions. Concurrently, more scattered, intermittent rainfall is predicted to develop across select districts in the Rajshahi, Dhaka, and Khulna divisions.

The meteorological agency also noted that isolated territories could experience moderately heavy to heavy monsoonal downpours. Structurally, daytime temperatures across the country are expected to remain stable and unchanged, while night-time temperatures are projected to drop marginally as the convective storm systems lower ambient tracking temperatures.
