The legendary Bengali vocalist, Syed Abdul Hadi, has been conferred with a special institutional honour by the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in recognition of his musical career spanning over five decades. This accolade forms part of a structured initiative by the academy to evaluate and honour eminent citizens who have made outstanding contributions to the development, preservation, and cultivation of national culture. Throughout his extensive career, Hadi’s vocal work has significantly enriched the Bangladeshi music industry, securing him a vast and enduring audience.
The formal presentation took place on Friday, 12 June 2026, during a distinguished ceremony hosted at the National Theatre Hall Auditorium. The event commenced with the screening of a specially commissioned documentary film illustrating the life, career achievements, and historical contributions of Syed Abdul Hadi to Bengali music. Following the screening, the veteran vocalist was formally escorted onto the stage, where dignitaries presented him with the official honorary memento.
The high-profile cultural assembly was attended by key government representatives and socio-cultural leaders. The Minister of State for the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, Ali Newaz Mahmud Khaiyam, and Dr Jahed Ur Rahman, the Policy and Strategy Advisor to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, attended the proceedings as special guests.
Additionally, Helal Khan, the Convener of the Jatiyatabadi Samajik Sangskritik Sangstha (JASAS), was present as an invited guest. The event was presided over by Kaniz Maula, the Secretary of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs.

During the discussion segment, the Director General of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, poet Sheikh Rezauddin Ahmed, delivered the welcome address. Commending Hadi’s profound impact on music, Ahmed stated: “He has enriched our musical world in such a manner that the height of Bengali music is now largely measured around the voice of Syed Abdul Hadi. To judge how well a young artist sang, their vocal performance is often compared with his singing style. There are very few music lovers who have not tried singing a song performed by Syed Abdul Hadi at least once.”
The ceremony concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Mohammad Jakir Hossain, the Secretary of the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
