The Bangladesh national cricket team has secured a historic One Day International (ODI) series victory against Australia, winning the first two matches of the three-game series. Ahead of the third and final ODI, where the hosts have an opportunity to complete a series whitewash, the players received substantial financial recognition for their landmark achievement on the pitch.
The State Minister for Youth and Sports, Aminul Haque, officially announced a financial bonus of BDT 2 crore for the national team cricketers in recognition of their series triumph over Australia. The decision was formally communicated via a press release issued today by his Press Secretary, Ashraful Alam.
This tour marks the first bilateral ODI series between Bangladesh and Australia in 16 years. Prior to this encounter, Bangladesh’s solitary ODI victory against Australia occurred during the historic 2005 match in Cardiff. The current series has seen the home side dominant, securing consecutive victories under rain-affected conditions.
First ODI: Bangladesh defeated Australia by 86 runs using the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method. This victory broke a long drought against the visitors, marking Bangladesh’s first ODI win over Australia since the 2005 fixture.
Second ODI: The hosts maintained their momentum in another rain-curtailed match, defeating Australia by 5 wickets via the DLS method. This victory sealed the three-match bilateral series with one game remaining.
With this historic series win against Australia now confirmed, England remains the only major cricketing nation that Bangladesh is yet to defeat in a bilateral ODI series.
The third and final ODI match is scheduled to take place tomorrow, offering Bangladesh the chance to complete a clean sweep against the touring Australian side. Following the conclusion of the ODI leg in Dhaka, both squads will travel to Chittagong to commence a three-match Twenty20 International (T20I) series.
