Five Bodies Recovered in Barguna Within 24 Hours

The police have recovered five bodies from various locations across the Barguna district within a 24-hour period. The recoveries were made between Friday afternoon and 11:30 am on Saturday from the Sadar, Patharghata, and Bamna upazilas.

The deceased include three individuals found hanging, one person beaten to death, and an autorickshaw driver whose body was discovered by the roadside. Three of the victims were residents of the Sadar upazila, while the remaining two belonged to the Patharghata and Bamna upazilas. This unusual concentration of multiple deaths in such a short timeframe has generated significant anxiety and concern across the local communities.

Incident Breakdown by Upazila

Barguna Sadar Upazila

On Saturday morning, the police recovered the hanging body of a housewife, Mst. Kona (34), from her residence in the Lemua area of Ayla Patakata union. Simultaneously, the hanging body of a 93-year-old woman, Saleha Begum, was recovered from her home in the Noli area of Dholua union.

These incidents followed a violent altercation on Friday afternoon, where a known drug dealer, Ibrahim Hossain (also known as Kalu), and his associates severely injured a Union Parishad member over a drug-related dispute. In response, an aggrieved mob of local residents launched a retaliatory attack on Kalu’s gang, resulting in the on-the-spot death of the gang leader, Ibrahim Hossain.

Mohammad Abdul Alim, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sadar Police Station, confirmed to our representative that the hanging bodies of the two women were recovered on Saturday morning, following the death of the identified criminal who was lynched by locals on Friday.

Patharghata Upazila

In the early hours of Saturday, the police found the body of an autorickshaw driver, Mizanur Rahman (45), by the side of the road south of the Water Development Board in Patharghata municipality. Mizanur was a resident of Ward No. 2 of the municipality.

According to his family, Mizanur went to sleep after dinner on Friday night but left the house undetected between 1:30 am and 2:00 am. He did not return. Local residents spotted his body at dawn and alerted the authorities. The family alleges that he was murdered due to a long-standing land dispute with neighbours.

Patharghata Police OC Md. Enamul Heque stated toour representative that primary investigations suggest a land dispute with neighbours precipitated the incident. The body has been dispatched to the hospital for a post-mortem examination, and formal legal action will commence upon receiving an official complaint.

Bamna Upazila

At approximately 11:30 am on Saturday, the police recovered the hanging body of an 18-year-old college student named Ehsan from the Kolagachia area of Bamna upazila.

Bamna Police OC Md. Faruk Hossain reported that the youth was found wearing headphones at the time of recovery. Preliminary assessments suggest that the student may have committed suicide due to a romantic relationship. The police have seized his mobile phone, and an investigation into the exact cause of death is underway.
