A businessman named Mijanur Rahman has died whilst undergoing medical treatment at a specialised burns facility in Dhaka, following a mobile phone explosion in Ashulia. The incident occurred during the late hours of Saturday, 13 June, at a rented residence owned by an individual named Alim, located near the Rashid Market area in Ashulia, Dhaka.
According to local sources, the explosion took place while two mobile phones were connected to an electrical charger and being operated simultaneously. Mijanur Rahman sustained severe burn injuries as a direct result of the detonation and subsequent fire. He succumbed to his injuries on Sunday afternoon, 14 June, at the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka.

Mijanur Rahman was originally a resident of Siddique Vendor village under the 10 No. Gopalia Union of Chhagalnaiya Thana in the Feni district. Prior to the accident, he resided as a tenant at Alim’s house in Ashulia and operated a retail and wholesale stall lot clothing business in the nearby Sonia Market area.
On the night of the incident, neighbours reported hearing a sudden, loud explosion emanating from the victim’s room, followed immediately by distress cries for assistance. Responding to the noise, local residents rushed to the property, broke the padlock on the room’s veranda door, and extracted the severely burned businessman from the premises.
The locals subsequently managed to bring the fire under control before it could spread further. Observers noted that the force of the explosion and the resulting fire partially destroyed the furniture inside the room. Furthermore, charred fragments and components of the exploded mobile handsets were found scattered across the floor of the room. Following his rescue, Mijanur Rahman was immediately transported to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka for emergency medical intervention, where he remained until his death the following afternoon.
