Police Recover Newborn Body From Faridpur Waste Dump

The police have recovered the body of a newborn baby from a waste dump in the Kanaipur area under Faridpur Sadar Upazila. The recovery operations took place on Monday afternoon, 15 June 2026. The body was discovered and subsequently retrieved from a heap of garbage located adjacent to the main entrance gate of the Kanaipur School and College, which sits within the jurisdiction of the Kanaipur Union in Faridpur Sadar.

According to institutional sources from the local police force, an initial examination of the deceased newborn indicated that the gestational age of the fetus was approximately five to six months. The administrative authorities documented these specific physiological details as part of their preliminary assessment during the recovery process.

Eyewitnesses present in the area described the sequence of events that led to the discovery on Monday afternoon. Local residents observed several stray dogs gathering around the rubbish heap and pulling at a blood-stained object. Upon approaching the waste dump to investigate the situation more closely, the onlookers discovered that the object being pulled by the animals was the body of a newborn infant. Following this discovery, the community members immediately contacted the national emergency service by dialling 999 to report the incident to the appropriate authorities. Upon receiving the emergency notification from the control operator, a team from the Kotwali Thana Police quickly dispatched to the specified location near the educational institution and took custody of the newborn’s body.

Sub-Inspector (SI) Khairul Bashar of the Kotwali Thana confirmed the details of the incident to reporters, validating that the police response was initiated directly after receiving information from local citizens. He stated that the administrative authorities have formed an initial hypothesis regarding the case, suggesting that the five-to-six-month-old fetus was likely dumped at the location under the cover of darkness during the night following a termination or miscarriage.

In relation to this discovery, an official General Diary (GD) has been registered at the local police station to document the legal and procedural aspects of the case. Furthermore, the law enforcement authorities coordinated with the humanitarian organisation Anjuman Mofidul Islam to handle the final rites, and the burial of the newborn was successfully arranged through this charitable institution.

Following the incident, local residents and members of the public expressed significant concern regarding the circumstances surrounding the event. They have formally requested the law enforcement agencies and local administration to launch a thorough investigation into how the newborn’s body came to be abandoned in a public waste dump.
