Three Detective Branch Members Injured In Narayanganj

Three members of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Detective Branch (DB) South Division sustained injuries following an assault by associates of an accused individual during an arrest operation. The initial incident occurred on the afternoon of Thursday, 18 June, in the Gauchia area under the jurisdiction of Rupganj Upazila in Narayanganj district. According to official police statements, the targeted law enforcement personnel were subjected to repeated physical assaults across multiple locations before being rescued by local police units.

Chronology of the Arrest Operation and Assault

The sequence of events commenced at approximately 3:00 pm on Thursday, 18 June, when a four-member team representing the DB South Division arrived in the Gauchia area of Rupganj. The specific objective of the operations team was to apprehend a suspect wanted in connection with an active criminal case. During the execution of the arrest, an assembly of individuals aligned with the accused suspect gathered rapidly at the location and launched a physical assault against the law enforcement officers.

During the confrontation, three of the undercover officers were forcefully detained, subjected to beatings, and subsequently compelled into a pickup van by the attackers. The perpetrators transported the captured personnel to Shantinagar Bazar, which is located within the Uchitpura Union of the neighbouring Araihazar Upazila. Upon arriving at Shantinagar Bazar, the three officers were subjected to a secondary round of physical violence by the gathering.

A fourth member of the Detective Branch team, identified as Constable Akash Ahmed, managed to evade the assault as he was using a nearby washroom facility when the initial confrontation erupted. Following the abduction of his colleagues, Constable Ahmed utilised the team’s microbus to travel to the Araihazar Police Station, where he formally alerted local authorities regarding the ongoing incident.

Rescue Operations and Medical Interventions

Upon receiving the notification from Constable Ahmed, a detachment from the Araihazar Police Station was deployed to Shantinagar Bazar. The responding police officers successfully extracted the three captive personnel from the scene and transported them directly to the Araihazar Upazila Health Complex for immediate emergency medical evaluation.

The three injured personnel were identified as Sub-Inspector (SI) Mamun Matubbor, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Aman Ullah, and Constable Kabir Ahmmed. Medical staff at the health complex indicated that the physical condition of Sub-Inspector Mamun Matubbor was severe due to the extent of the injuries sustained during the double assault. Following initial stabilisation at the upazila facility, the wounded personnel were subsequently transferred to medical facilities in Dhaka for advanced treatment.

Official Administrative Responses and Status

The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Araihazar Police Station, Mohammad Sabzel Hossain, confirmed that an active investigation has been initiated to identify the individuals responsible for orchestrating and executing the assault on the public servants. He noted that comprehensive details regarding the identities of the perpetrators would be disclosed upon the conclusion of preliminary inquiries.

Providing further context on the operational circumstances, the Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) for Narayanganj District, Tareq Al Mehedi, stated that the Dhaka DB officials had entered the Bhulta area of Rupganj dressed in plain clothes rather than standard police uniforms. He explained that the absence of official uniforms contributed to the officers facing public wrath from the gathered crowd. He confirmed that police units from both Sonargaon Police Station and Araihazar Police Station coordinated the eventual rescue operation, and local authorities remain in direct communication with the Dhaka Detective Branch regarding subsequent legal proceedings.
